Fishing is rapidly becoming one of the nation’s favourite pastimes. There has been a steady increase in the number of fishing enthusiasts, and these anglers are keen to find new and comfortable areas in which to fish. Angling facilities have been very sparse and poorly-equipped in the past. However, the Longshaw Farm Fishery, near Canterbury, Kent is aiming to improve on this dull and outdated image with the introduction of a topquality traditional-style wooden log cabin set in a very tranquil country setting. Mr Hadlow, owner of Longshaw Farm Fishery, contacted cabin specialist Olaf Eklo of Nordic Wood, Cobham, Surrey for construction of a Norwegianstyle cabin that would be both functional for selling fishing bait, permits, etc, but also with space for a light refreshments area. It has been made from high grade Norwegian timber. The cabin’s natural coated finish harmonises well with the local environment, facing an attractive series of inland lakes. As the cabin is situated well away from the nearest farm, the risk of an arson attack or accidental fire had to be considered. Olaf suggested the use of two coats of Envirograf® Product 92 (ES/VFR flame retardant coating system). This coating system complies with BS476 Parts 6 & 7 (1989) Class 0 and Class 1 spread of flame requirements (tested on a number of surfaces), and Classification A1-B/S1/d0 of European Standard EN13501-1 Parts EN13823: 2002 single burn test (SBI) and EN11925-2: 2002 ignitability. The Envirograf® ES/VFR coating system is waterbased and is available in clear or white finishes. It can be easily and quickly applied by brush, roller, or spray on many internal and external substrates requiring a high quality finish that does not affect the appearance of the substrate. This flame retardant has been used to efficiently prevent the spread of flame on other materials such as bamboo, chipboard, decorative laminates, plywood, MDF, melamine, timber, etc.
