Description
Flexible Cavity Barrier for Timber
The flexible cavity barrier for timber is a PVC and foil-clad intumescent strip with self-adhesive backing to adhere to walls. Designed especially for timber frame buildings. High expansion intumescent locks against the external side of the internal wall in a fire without affecting the outer wall. Blue plastic sleeve robust enough to prevent damage by water or pests. Under heat the intumescent creates a fire seal, thus providing full fire protection. Cut the seals to any length using the joint sleeve supplied for sealing off the ends.
Specify the overall cavity size and required ventilation gap when ordering.
Cavity Barriers are pieces of fire-stopping material. They fit within the cavity of a building at each floor horizontally and party wall in a verticle position. The material provides compartmentation. Both the flames and heat cannot be transferred to other compartmental areas. Throughout the life of the building, the Cavity Barrier will remain fixed in place. In the event of a fire, the intumescent material expands and seals off the gaps. Additionally, the horizontal barriers allow for a ventilation gap within the cavity. Subsequently closing when the intumescent expands.
Our Cavity Barrier range at Envirograf® offers superb protection to your building by providing fire stopping. Explore the Cavity Barrier range online.
Advantages
– Both barrier ranges will provide a minimum of 2 hours protection
– CV strip barriers are ideal for modular buildings where space is limited, due to their small profile
– Initially install with adhesive strip to hold in place, then fix more securely with non-combustible fixings
– CV Strip barrier tested to BS476 parts 20, 22 and BS EN 1363-1 (1999), giving fire protection from 60 to 120 minutes.
Application Instructions
Depending on which size CV Cavity Strip Barrier you have ordered, they will either need to be mechanically fixed every 300mm or alternatively use the fixing brackets if supplied.
THE CV CAVITY STRIP BARRIER MUST BE FIXED BACK TO THE SUBSTRATE (e.g. wall or cement board etc). DO NOT FIX the Cavity Strip Barrier to polystyrene or any insulation material. IT MUST BE FIXED BACK TO THE SUBSTRATE using the brackets or mechanically fixed every 300mm with a non-combustible fixing.
Should you need to cut the Barrier, please ensure all joints are sealed with the strips which are supplied. We can supply more strips if required for a small charge.
Should you need to cut the barrier for installation purposes then the barrier must remain continuous without any breaches i.e. full length and height where applicable. Each length should be tightly butted up to the next. Do not allow any gaps in between each length of barrier. If using brackets, use 1½” (38mm) No.8 screws. If not using brackets, use screws, into timber at 250mm – 300mm between centres.
