Description
ECU Fire Protection System for Electrical Units
Common household electrical consumer units (ECUs) are an essential mains control of a home’s energy supply. However, they are susceptible to overloading, causing dangerous fires and harmful smoke spreading within homes. Without adequate ECU fire protection protection, homes and buildings become scorched within minutes.
IET Wiring Regulations states that consumer units require being “of non-combustible material, or enclosed in a cabinet or enclosure constructed of non-combustible material”.
To protect against overheated ECUs, we’ve manufactured an ECU fire protection system consisting of an ECU cover housed with intumescent lining. The flexible cloth can nestle around cables, conduits and trunking by cutting spaces into the cloth. In the event of fire, the intumescent cloth expands to create a fire seal, preventing the rapid spread of fires. This allows enough time for occupants to evacuate buildings and for local fire services to arrive and safely extinguish fires.
Our covers provide an effective as well as economical solution.
- Also includes a metal enclosure for safety.
- Fixes around existing plastic electrical consumer units.
- Furthermore, it upgrades existing combustible consumer units in line with regulations without replacement.
Our electrical and plumbing products meet IET wiring regulations as well as
Document B & E of
Building Regulations tested to European and British Standards. Browse our full range of
electrical and plumbing products.
Advantages
– Designed to protect consumer units, fuseboxes, and switch boxes along escape routes such as staircases or corridors for up to 1 hour
– A versatile preventative measure for overheating electrical boxes, complying with Amendment 3 of BS7671:2008
– Access hatch to the unit can be hinged to open to the side or to drop downwards, dependent on requirements
Application Instructions
The Intumescent Electrical Consumer Unit Fire Protection System simply
fits over the existing unit and is then fixed with screws. Small holes can be made in the
frame to allow for conduits or ducting. In the event of a fire the intumescent material
will fill these gaps for complete fire protection. You will need to allow a 30mm
minimum clearance on all sides for connections.
