Description

Slotted Intumescent Grille

Intumescent ventilation grilles consisting of two metal plates that hold intumescent material fitted on either side of a door or wall. Once the grille reaches 70oC the link breaks and the inner intumescent plate drops, sealing the grille. Fires will become compartmentalized to prevent the spread of smoke and flames, preserving building structures and allowing safe time for occupants to evacuate.

  • The grille has ventilation slots to allow improved airflow quality.
  • The intumescent material placed within the grille will expand in under a minute to seal the openings, preventing fire and smoke from spreading. See also MGL intumescent grilles.
  • Available in a wide range of different sizes and finishes.
  • An option to include a thermal breaker is available.

Our intumescent ventilation grilles are suitable for operating theatres, sterile areas, and food preparation spaces, providing effective passive fire protection.

Tested to BS476 Parts 20 and 22 (1987), achieving 66 minutes on one side only; and BS476 Part 22 (1987) achieving integrity of 73 minutes. Also tested to EN1363-1 (2000).

Application Instructions

The sets are defined in two ways: the /D version is for use in situations in which the risk is double-sided (that is, the opening could be attacked by fire from either side); and the /S version is for use in situations in which it has been clearly identified that only a single side of the opening is at risk. When fitting the /S version, the intumesced plate is placed on the risk side and the plain plate is placed on the opposite side of the opening. Order the grilles to suit the opening to be protected – the external measurement of the grille needs to be at least 50mm larger than the opening to allow for fixing.
