In response, Envirograf® has developed the new Takta Range — a collection of innovative products designed to help buildings and the people within them adapt to a changing climate. A Changing Climate: The Growing Risk
Climate change is no longer a distant concern. The UK is experiencing rising temperatures, longer periods of extreme heat, changing rainfall patterns, drought and increasingly disruptive weather events.
The Met Office’s UK Climate Projections indicate that the UK is likely to experience hotter, drier summers and warmer, wetter winters. Extreme weather events are also becoming increasingly likely. We have already seen the impact, with the UK recording its first temperature above 40°C in July 2022.
In 2026, extreme heat has once again placed pressure on communities, infrastructure, agriculture and public services. Temperatures have exceeded 36°C, and there are growing concerns around wildfires, drought and excessive indoor temperatures.
These changes affect more than just comfort. Homes, farms, workplaces, hospitals, care homes and other buildings all face different risks as temperatures and weather patterns change.
Introducing the Takta Range
Developed by Envirograf®, the new patent-pending Takta Range brings together five practical building solutions. These are designed to improve safety, durability and building performance in the face of increasingly demanding environmental conditions.
TaktaKote – Fire and Timber Protection
TaktaKote is an intumescent, fire-retardant coating developed to protect timber structures both internally and externally.
When exposed to significant heat or flame, the coating expands to form a protective insulating barrier, helping to slow the spread of fire. Importantly, it also incorporates a biocide to help protect timber against woodlice, fungus and wood rot.
Suitable for applications including farm buildings, animal enclosures, sheds, garages and fencing, TaktaKote combines fire protection with long-term timber preservation.
TaktaRoof Breathable Membrane – Protection Beneath the Roof
Roof structures can be exposed to significant heat, particularly during periods of extreme weather. Roof coverings can absorb and transfer heat into the roof space, increasing temperatures around the timber structure beneath.
TaktaRoof Breathable Membrane provides a fire-resistant, breathable protective layer between the roof covering and underlying structure. It is designed to help reduce heat transfer while providing additional fire protection. Therefore, it offers a practical solution for protecting roof timbers.
Tested to BS EN 1363-1:2020, the membrane withstood temperatures exceeding 750°C for over 62 minutes before ignition. Moreover, it achieved a B-s1 rating in an SBI test.
TaktaRoof Wrap – Reducing Heat from Metal Roofs
Metal roofing is widely used across agricultural, industrial and commercial buildings. However, exposed metal can absorb and radiate significant amounts of heat into the building below.
TaktaRoof Wrap is a specially coated glass cloth designed for installation beneath corrugated metal roofing. It creates a protective insulating layer that helps reduce radiant heat transfer. At the same time, it provides an additional layer of passive fire protection.
Furnace tested at 800°C, TaktaRoof Wrap resisted ignition for 66 minutes. As a result, it is suitable for buildings including livestock shelters, agricultural storage, workshops, garages and industrial spaces.
TaktaRoof Cover – Fire and Weather Protection
Flat roofs can be exposed to increasingly high temperatures, UV radiation and changing weather conditions. Over time, this can contribute to the deterioration of traditional roofing materials.
TaktaRoof Cover is a durable, water-resistant and fire-tested roofing material designed to protect flat timber roofs. This is true whether they are already covered with felt or completely bare.
It provides a protective layer against heat, UV exposure, weathering and fire. Notably, it offers a long-lasting alternative to traditional roofing felt on suitable timber and OSB/chipboard substrates.
TaktaVent – Fresh Air Without the Insects
As temperatures rise, maintaining comfortable and well-ventilated indoor environments becomes increasingly important. Opening windows can improve airflow. However, it can also allow flies and other insects into buildings.
This can be particularly concerning in hospitals, care homes, schools and other environments where vulnerable people may be present. This is because insects can carry bacteria and potentially contribute to the spread of disease.
TaktaVent provides controlled natural ventilation with an integrated insect mesh, helping fresh air enter while keeping unwanted insects out. Its adjustable airflow control allows ventilation to be tailored to the environment. In addition, it requires no electricity.
For additional safety, TaktaVent incorporates fire-resistant intumescent material. In the event of a fire, this material expands when exposed to heat. As such, it helps seal the ventilation opening and restrict the passage of air, smoke and fire.
