Description
Underfloor Fire Barrier and Acoustic Barrier
Underfloor fire barrier UF60 (60 minutes) is made from graphite-impregnated cloth covered with reinforced kraft paper, giving 60 minutes of fire and insulation protection. UF104 is similar but has a wire mesh inside the unit as added support, approximately 5mm thick. Designed to provide insulation and fire protection to the flooring as well as ceilings. Can also help improve the support of wooden flooring. For the acoustic requirement to U value and to meet the requirement of Document E (H in Scotland), there is a 40mm thick sponge supplied for the width between the joists. Lay this over the barrier between the joists.
Standard lengths are 1800mm long. Standard widths are 400mm, 450mm, 500mm, and 600mm. Other lengths and widths are available to order. The barriers are very strong but with a sharp knife, you can cut where there are herring box joints. Use all of the supplied metal plates when fixing the barrier in position.
In testing, the UF104 barrier was installed in a ceiling/ floor without any plasterboard or lath-and-plaster. Just the barrier itself. It tested to BS476 part 21 (1987), achieving 104 minutes of integrity, insulation, and load-bearing. UF60 tested to BS476part 21 and achieved 62 minutes.
Fire barriers provide an effective solution for rooms or areas within buildings that need fire protection. Browse our full range of Floor, Ceiling, and Wall Protection products online.
Advantages
– Provides up to 104 minutes of integrity and insulation
– A 40mm thick sponge is also available, fitted between the joists to provide acoustic protection and insulation
– Ideal for protecting wooden-joisted floors situated above suspended ceilings
– Can accommodate joists up to 600mm apart, using wire mesh to provide additional support
Application Instructions
The underfloor fire barrier is laid on top of the ceiling. Allow for 50mm of the barrier to go up the joist on each side (e.g. if the gap between the joists is 400mm, a 500mm wide underfloor barrier is required). A 50mm overlap is also required when joining individual pieces of the barrier, as well as 50mm up the wall at each end of the run. 18 metal fixing plates 30mm x 50mm with a hole drilled in the middle are supplied per barrier, for fixing at intervals of 300mm between centres along the barrier with 30mm galvanised clout nails (nails not supplied).
For the acoustic requirement to U value and to meet the requirement of Document E (H in Scotland), a 40mm thick sponge is supplied for the width between the joists – simply push into place between joists once the barrier is fitted.
