Tents for Lighting and Air Conditioning used to protect Homebase stores.
Many of the Homebase range of stores have been earmarked for conversion to accommodate a wider range of merchandise. The traditional Homebase DIY store has now been replaced by a completely new look to inspire 21st century customers. The task of transforming a number of the stores was given to a well-known shopfitting company. The project involved the need to complete the job quickly and efficiently whilst still enabling the store to function as normal. The store lighting needs to be bright and effective if the merchandise is to be attractive to the customer. Recessed fluorescent luminaires have been used to achieve this light ambience. In the event of a fire, the light fitting would fall away from the ceiling in just a few minutes, which would leave the space above vulnerable to attack from the fire. Therefore, the ceiling requires a fire protection cover above the light fittings in order to maintain its original fire rating.
Technical fire consultants Anglian Intumescent supplied Envirograf® Product 31 (FT2 fire tents) to the shopfitters. The tents are quick and easy to erect, as indicated in the pictures, and they offer up to 60 minutes of fire protection and 88 minutes of fire integrity. This product is part of the extensive Envirograf® range of passive fire prevention products manufactured.
