Stramit Board Protection at King George Hospital
Envirograf® was recently involved with a project to upgrade an area of the large, King George Hospital in Ilford. The hospital reached out for our help with providing an intumescent coating. The fire-resistant coating increases the fire performance of Stramit Board ceilings in the event of a fire.
Ceilings constructed with Stramit Board consist of straw fibres, a flammable material. As a solution, Envirograf® were able to provide a product called EP/CP (Product 105). When coated on the substrate in 3 coats at 8sqm per litre, per coat, EP/CP provides over 60 minutes’ protection.
In some of the areas of the ceiling, cut-outs were present. Whilst the contractors coated the Stramit Board ceiling with intumescent paint, they also needed to address the gaps. Using Product 4 – Intumescent Coated Slabs and Product 58 – AM Mastic to fill the voids achieved this.
The contractors carrying out the job commented,
“The product was ready and waiting for us on site after the previous days order, once we received the coating, we loaded it into our spraying devices, and started to coat the ceiling, the coverage was fantastically accurate and the product was a great success to use. We will certainly be contracting Envirograf again for our next projects as the full process has been so easy to navigate.”
