Football is coming home to Dartford

Dartford football stadium

Innovative plywood structured roof at Prince Park Stadium.

Football is coming home to Dartford, Kent! Dartford Football Club is returning to its home town after 14 long years of ground-sharing exile outside its home town. However, the new Princes Park Stadium in Dartford, with its distinguished design, will be the new home of The Darts. This new stadium will accommodate up to 4000 football spectators. It has been designed by architect Alexander Sedgely with a ‘living roof’ which will provide the Dartford football fans with an ecological backdrop to this exciting development. The roof consists of an innovative plywood structure with steel columns and a covering of grass turf facing the sky. The plywood underside is exposed to the elements and needed to be protected from the risk of a fire, in order to comply with current UK fire regulations, so main contractor Jacksons contacted fire consultant Clive Wilson of Lifestore Passive Fire Solutions in Kent for expert help and advice. The plywood had to comply with the Class 0 and Class 1 spread of flame requirements in order to satisfy the local authority’s building control department, so Clive suggested the use of Envirograf® Product 92 (ES/VFR water-based flameretardant) which has been tested to BS476 Parts 6 & 7 (1989) spread of flame standards. Envirograf® Product 42 (HW03 top coat) was then used to provide an effective seal to protect the flame-retardant coating against the elements. ES/VFR has long record of successful internal and external applications without any loss of performance. The ES/VFR flame-retardant coating can be easily applied by either brush, roller, or spray.
